"Grand Canyon Map 1948"

Jo Mora was originally commissioned by Scenic Airways, Inc.to do this map, but the deal did not go through. You will notice the reference to an airplane on the bottom left of the carte. The first variation was published in black & white but, due to a lack of popularity, it was colored in some years later and published by Jo Mora Publications. It is packed with historical notes and humor of a time gone by. What fun it would be to reference this map on a trip to the Grand Canyon.

"Yellowstone Map"

Jo Mora did this delightful artwork in 1931, it shows the evolution of the Native American's who spent the summers in their sacred hunting ground, then the invasion of the trappers and the US Cavalry as Yellowstone became a park bringing tourists from trains in Montana and Idaho, in stage coaches, buses and road cars. Lodges, campground and geyser basins are marked, as well as trails and lakes. In the 1930’s cabin areas had curfews.  In the morning the rangers would chase the bear away so the tourist could come out safely. There were hot spring pools to swim in, and bleachers to watch the bear come in to feed. Jo had a great sense of humor from the time.  Yellowstone has changed a lot,  but is still the same in many ways. Today this map might urge you to stop somewhere you might not have considered.
